The 71. Edition of the Trento Film Festival (a film festival focusing on the themes of mountains, exploration, mountaineering, mountain culture and the environment) not only featured films, meetings, and conferences on the theme of mountains, but also a series of activities dedicated to children and young people called “T4Future – A school of nature”. Some of the proposed events also took place in Bolzano.
On 8 June 2023, Eco Research took part in one of the science dissemination activities organised as part of “T4Future – At School with Nature” in the Parco dei Cappuccini in Bolzano. In particular, the researchers and collaborators of Eco Research proposed a workshop entitled ‘Discovering the Lost Origin’. The participants, mostly secondary school children, were able to discover what isotopes are and the importance of some of them in establishing the geographical origin of an agro-forestry product. They were then able to put into practice what they had learnt and try their hand at ‘research’ through two games to recognise the origin of apples, cereals, wood, and grapes.
Participants were also informed about the TIOMI research project ‘Isotopic techniques for tracing the origin of South Tyrolean agro-forestry products and improving the use of water resources’, in the context of which the use of the strontium isotope ratio as an origin marker for the ‘Mela Alto Adige PGI’ was studied. The flyer produced for this project was offered to the workshop participants and can be downloaded here (available only in Italian).
